Narrow Leaved Red Mallee

Narrow Leaved Red Mallee (Eucalyptus latens ‘Moon Lagoon’) is a fine‐leaved mallee cultivar prized for its ornamental appeal. It’s derived from the native narrow‐leaved red mallee (Eucalyptus latens) of southwestern Australia, and many sources describe it as having originated from seed collected on a property known as “Moon Lagoon.”

Key Characteristics:

• Foliage:
  Juvenile leaves are a striking blue/silver, which can be maintained through regular pruning. If left unpruned, the foliage tends to mature into a deeper green, while the plant still produces attractive red–orange buds before flowering.

• Growth Habit & Size:
  It grows as a dense, compact shrub or small tree (often around 3–4 m tall by 1–3 m wide) and works well as a screen, hedge, or windbreak. Its dense habit also makes it excellent for cut flower and foliage arrangements.

• Cultivation:
  Thriving in full sun with well-draining, preferably humus-rich soil, it is both drought tolerant and moderately frost resistant once established. Regular clipping not only maintains its appealing juvenile color but also encourages a neat, dense form.
